ASSE’s Greater San Jose Chapter honored 2016-2017 Officers at the August Technical Meeting

The 2016-2017 ASSE Board members were honored with a Certificate of Recognition for outstanding service for the ASSE-Greater San Jose Chapter.

The 2016-2017 Board Members that were recognized were Pat Hinds, Ramon Khu, James Beeby, and John Steele.

Christy Foster (left) was recognized as the President of the chapter last year by the current President, Jennifer Harris.

NIOSH Assesses Young Worker Fatality Trends

NIOSH has published Young Worker Injury Deaths: A Historical Summary of Surveillance and Investigative Findings. The report includes data from the Census of Fatal Occupational Injuries of young worker deaths that occurred between 1994 and 2013. The information is presented according to demographic characteristics, employer characteristics, incident circumstances and temporal patterns. During this time period, 942 occupational fatalities occurred among youth workers, 88% of whom were male.

House of Delegates supports ASSE’s new name while keeping current logo

DENVER — A significant step was taken today toward a new name for the American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE) when its House of Delegates voted in favor of a title that better reflects its diverse membership.

The proposed new name for the world’s oldest professional safety organization is the American Society of Safety Professionals, which now heads to a membership vote that spans 45 days. ASSE members worldwide will cast their votes through electronic ballots that will be tallied in early August.
